Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon to host world-class long-distance running elite including world champion.

Once again top long-distance runners from all over the world will be flocking to Olomouc to take part in the IAAF Gold Label race on Saturday, 23rd of June. Four men in total boast personal best times under one hour. Women competitors include world champion and half marathon world record holder – Ethiopian runner Netsanet Gudeta. Fans can also look forward to checking out Czech record holder Eva Vrabcová-Nývltová and the fastest Czech long-distance running man Jiří Homoláč.

The ninth Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon promises to play host to some impressive record-breaking attempts and possibly successes. Kenyan runner Geoffrey Ronoh has managed to hold onto his winning time of 1:00:17 since 2014. This year however he can expect to face competition from a strong group of African long-distance runners headed by Jemal Yimer, the third fastest half marathon runner on this year’s rankings with a personal best of 59:00. He will be up against three other men all with personal bests under sixty minutes and a further four under sixty one minutes.

In terms of European runners taking part in the Olomouc race, Jiří Homoláč holds the top personal best. “We’re well into this long season now, but I’m going to try and defend my Czech victory title from last year.” Also keen for a slice of podium action will be České Budějovice half marathon winner Vít Pavlišta along with local long-distance runner Jiří Matoušek.

Netsanet Gudeta will also be returning to Olomouc. The Ethiopian runner finished second in 2017, however she’s in top shape this year as world half marathon champion and world record holder in the same distance. She ran her world best time at a women’s only half marathon as part of the World Championships in Valencia this March. Her personal best time of 1:06:11 is also better than the current race record of 1:06:38, held by Mary Keitany in 2015.

Eva Vrabcová-Nývltová will be returning to Olomouc for the third time in a row, having so far always finished as the best Czech woman runner. The outstanding fans, which Olomouc is famous for, will certainly have their fingers firmly crossed for local star Petra Kamínková. “I still love the races and am pleased that one of them is held pretty much on my door step. The Olomouc half marathon is really close to my heart and definitely wouldn’t want to miss out on it. Olomouc also deserves to have such a great race,” the legendary long-distance runner revealed.

The ninth Mattoni Olomouc Half Marathon gets underway on Saturday 23rd June at 18.30 CEST and will also be broadcast live on as well as ČT Sport.
